KUROGANE PARK – A Hillside Wonderland | Kokubunji, Tokyo

スポンサーリンク

Welcome to TOKYO FREE PARKS! This time, we’d like to introduce Kurogane Park, a charming public park managed by the city of Kokubunji. It’s located on the border of Kokubunji and Fuchu cities, just a 13-minute walk from JR Nishi-Kokubunji Station.

Nestled in a quiet residential neighborhood, this park is a favorite local hangout—especially for children—thanks to its natural hill and spacious playground areas.

The Famous Roller Slide Down the Hill

The park’s most popular feature is a long roller slide built into the slope of a natural hill. Kids love it—but don’t be fooled, it’s surprisingly fast and exciting even for adults!
Tip: Bring a piece of cardboard to sit on—otherwise, the rollers might hurt your bottom, if you try it many times.

Challenging Climbing Walls for Active Kids

Kurogane Park features two types of climbing walls, perfect for adventurous children who love to test their strength and coordination.

The first is a stone wall fitted with multiple metal grips for hands and feet. It’s steep and quite long, requiring real leg power and focus—ideal for older kids looking for a challenge.

View from the top of the wooden climbing wall—kids climb up using the rope

The second is a wooden climbing wall with a rope, which kids can use to pull themselves up a sloped surface. It’s great for building balance and upper body strength. Once you make it to the top, you’ll be right next to the roller slide starting point—ready for another thrilling ride.

Two More Classic Slides

There are also two more traditional slides on the hillside. With a moderate height and slope, they’re perfect for kids who might find the roller slide a bit too intense.

Flatland Fun for All Ages

On the park’s flat area, you’ll find a fun variety of playground equipment including a tunnel, balance bridges, an arched seesaw, and a sandbox—perfect for keeping kids entertained for hours.

A Peaceful Spot for Adults Too

Kurogane Park isn’t just for kids. It’s also a peaceful spot for a walk or a moment of relaxation.
There’s a pond fed by natural spring water, coming from the base of the Kokubunji cliff line, a unique geological feature of the area.

By the pond, you’ll find benches under a beautiful wisteria trellis, offering a shady, tranquil place to rest.
